[:en]“Talks with scientists” is the name of the activity that brought Mario Hamuy together with thirty students from different schools of our country, finalists of the Explora’s XV National School Congress of Science and Technology.
Forty-six teams from all over the country, which had great performances regionally, joined together at Explora’s XV National School Congress of Science and Technology during three days. Several activities were carried out, being one of the most important one: “Talk with Scientists”, at the Ex National Congress, in which students had the possibility to share and talk with outstanding national scientists of not only the most important advances but also share their personal experiences on science and the story that motivated them to dedicate their lives to this field.
Mario Hamuy, Director of the Millennium Institute of Astrophysics and Professor of the Department of Astronomy of Universidad de Chile, had the opportunity to talk with a group of these future scientists. In this occasion, he told them about his early interest in astronomy, the development of his career and the ups and downs he has had to go through to achieve his goals.
After this meeting, the students reunited at the Hall of Honor to talk to their partners about what they learned in this talking session with our researchers, highlighting Hamuy’s story and his persistence to overcome obstacles in his professional development.
This was a truly inspiring occasion for children and teenagers attending to this activity, who are just getting in touch with science and this field.

Fueron tres días de emociones en que 46 equipos de todo el país, y que tuvieron destacadas participaciones regionalmente, se reunieron en el XV Congreso Nacional Escolar de Ciencia y Tecnología Explora. Diversas actividades llenaron su agenda, siendo una de las más destacadas “Conversaciones con Científicos”, desarrollada en el Ex Congreso Nacional, en que los estudiantes tenían la posibilidad de compartir con destacados científicos nacionales no sólo los avances más importantes en su área, sino que también acerca de su experiencia personal en la ciencia y la historia que los llevó a dedicar su vida a su estudio.
Mario Hamuy, Director del Instituto Milenio de Astrofísica y Académico del Departamento de Astronomía de la Universidad de Chile, tuvo la oportunidad de conversar con un grupo de estos futuros científicos, ocasión en que les contó acerca de su temprano interés por la astronomía, el desarrollo de su carrera y los altibajos que ha tenido que atravesar para lograr sus objetivos.
Posterior a esta reunión, fueron los mismos alumnos, en el Salón de Honor, los que les contaron al resto de sus compañeros sobre lo que habían aprendido en esta hora de conversación con los investigadores, destacando en el caso de Hamuy su perseverancia para superar los obstáculos que implica el desarrollo profesional.
Una instancia inspiradora para los niños y jóvenes presentes, los que recién están encantándose en el quehacer de la ciencia.
