In a talk where 60 students from the Physics-Mathematics and Scientific elective courses from 3rd grade Senior attended, the Professor Radostín Kurtev, MAS Adjunct Researcher and Director of the Astrophysics Center of Universidad de Valparaíso, explained the students what are the eclipses and what are their characteristics , upon the one we are living next July 2 in Chile.
The activity that MAS carries out is within the framework of MAS campaign organized in cooperation with the Physics and Astronomy Institute of Universidad de Valparaíso (IFA), and the Millennium Nucleus for Planet Formation (NPF). Its main goal is to raise awareness among the population and especially among those who are coursing school, to get prepared to observe the eclipse safely, which will be visible in our country.
The astronomical phenomenon, which has engaged the audience’s interest, it was explained as much from the scientific point of view, to understand how this phenomenon happens and why is not that often, as from the perspective of preventive measures that should be taken to avoid eye damage.

En una charla a la que asistieron 60 alumnos de los electivos físico-matemático y científico de III medio, el profesor Radostín Kurtev, investigador adjunto MAS y Director del Centro de Astrofísica de la Universidad de Valparaíso explicó a los alumnos qué son y cuáles son las características de los eclipses, ad portas del que viviremos en todo Chile el próximo 2 de julio.
La actividad, organizada por el MAS, se enmarca dentro de la campaña conjunta que el centro está realizando con el Instituto de Física y Astronomía de la Universidad de Valparaíso (IFA) y el Núcleo Milenio de Formación Planetaria (NPF), la cual tiene como objetivo sensibilizar a la población general, y muy especialmente a aquellos en edad escolar, para estar preparados para el observar de manera segura el eclipse que será visible en nuestro país.
El fenómeno astronómico, que ha despertado un gran interés de parte del público, fue explicado tanto desde el punto de vista científico, para entender cómo se produce el fenómeno y por qué es tan poco frecuente, como también sobre las precauciones que se deben tomar para evitar un daño ocular.
